“People who ask questions isolate themselves…Our questions may chase everyone else away, but they attract Jesus. We may be stuck with our questions, but we are also stuck with Jesus. If our questions leave us alone with Jesus, then lonely isn’t a bad place to be.” Michael Yaconelli, Dangerous Wonder.
Have you ever been scared to ask questions?
I have all the time. But I wish I wasn’t. Questions are good. In Dangerous Wonder, Michael Yaconelli brings up the point of how society today has made questions rare. That they are embarrassing and uncomfortable and sometime can even be wrong. Wrong. It is so hard to believe that a question can be wrong. I have asked some questions in the past that people don’t approve of. And let me tell you it prevents you from asking more questions.
Many of times I have sat in discipleship, class, even work and been scared to ask a question. WHY? I think its because I am afraid that it will be stupid and people will make fun of me. Or that I feel ashamed that I don’t know the answer. So I sit there and dont ask. And because of that I don’t get answers. Which keeps me from learning. You can’t really learn something if you don’t understand it and you can’t figure it out unless you do ask questions.
Michael Yaconelli talks about curiosity. A curiosity that draws you to ask question and grow closer to God. I want to be able to ask those questions that I am scared to ask. I want to learn and figure things out. So I will try to ask questions no matter if they are “worng” or embarrassing or uncomfortable. Because I know that because I have stepped out and asked God is smiling and drawing me closer to him. And that is what I want. I love to be close to him.
So I ask you to ask yourselves the question. I am I going to stop thinking about how stupid my question could be and just ask them? I mean the worst that could happen is you learn something you didn’t know.
Oh I love that book. I’ve read that several times over the past few years. Not sure if you’ve read it before or not…..but take it in! It’s so basic yet so in depth…. enjoy!!
